David believes that good design takes account of composition and proportion, and his interest in that began at university and ended up as the topic of his final year thesis. That, along with his strong focus on the physical context, and his philosophy to reflect the character of the people who will be living in the buildings he creates or alters, forms the basis of his design philosophy.

He has worked in architecture and interior design companies in London, Wellington and Auckland and he set up his own practice Architecture and Design Ltd in 2009.

While in London David worked for an architectural practice that specialised in Historic buildings, and he worked on 300-400 year old London buildings, doing renovations and additions. He values clients who want to develop and preserve older buildings, as well as those who use his expertise to design new buildings from scratch.

David’s experience includes significant interior design work with a broad portfolio of work across homes, airline lounges, office fit outs, cinema complexes and restaurants.  When designing buildings, he constantly thinks about the interior and architectural design as one, looking at the building in its overall context, and how the owners live and interact within the spaces. As a result, clients benefit from an integrated approach that flows from the interior to the exterior of David’s house designs, often including the landscape design of the outdoor spaces
